Your safety is the number one priority. If you’re pregnant and are encountering an abusive relationship, seek immediate help. You deserve to feel safe and protected at all times.

Help is here. Call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at (800) 799-SAFE (7233) for immediate support.

Abusive Relationships During Pregnancy

1 in 6 women experience abuse for the first time in their life during a pregnancy. An abusive relationship can become elevated during pregnancy. Abuse of any kind during pregnancy can lead to a miscarriage, early (preterm) labor, or other health problems for you and your child.

It’s important to note that you are NOT obligated to disclose your pregnancy to your partner.

Get to a Safe Place

Is it hard to see right now as you face abuse and just found out you’re pregnant? You are not alone. Whether your partner has previously been abusive or is just showing signs of abuse, it’s not ok, and your pregnancy could be in danger now, too.

Create a Plan

Find someone you trust to make a plan to protect your safety immediately. Find a place to house yourself safely. If you need to be somewhere more distant from your partner, it could be a family member’s house, a friend’s house, or a friend of a friend.

Be sure to cut off all contact from your partner. We know this is a big step, and we can help and assist you with community referrals.

If you’ve already tried leaving your partner and he has become even more violent, contact the police to learn more about getting a restraining order.
